Martin Luther King: The Great Civil Rights Leader

Hi everyone,

Saturday 01/15/2011 commemorated several countries "The Birth of Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther King" .

Martin Luther King, was one of the greatest civil rights activists of the black race in America Among his most memorable is the Montgomery bus boycott, supported the founding of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the leadership of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963 where promunció his famous speech "I have a dream-I have a Dream ", Enjoy of this great speech! ***

When I think of these great leaders of history and its commitment to society ... get my mind all Leaders mediators, negotiators, Coaches, Teachers, Doctors, Engineers, lawyers, government officials, businessmen and many people that from their workplace make possible a "peaceful coexistence - not discriminatory," where the values of respect, tolerance, multiculturalism and diversity enrich the work environment thus generating ideal spaces for creativity, synergy, talent and innovation of organizations.

I know every one of you at some point in life, you have found these "everyday leaders", people involved in society, leaders are not only great, but do we grow to around .

Research in conflict zones. A student propóstio - Researchers at the University of Los Andes

This week, Colombia was shocked by the brutal murder of the students of biology at the University of Los Andes in Bogota, Margarita Gomez and Matthew Matamala. The two students were making academic practices in the town of San Bernardo del Viento in the department of Cordoba. Police investigations have to point to the paramilitary group "Los Urabeños" as responsible for the double homicide.

The news sparked a widespread rejection in the country. The media carried out extensive analysis of the political context of the area, highlighting how, despite the demobilization of paramilitary groups, violence has not diminished in the Cordoba department on the contrary has evolved and adapted to the political, social and economic department.

However, very few have analyzed the impact of this tragic event for the year of research in Colombia. Maybe you have to start wondering about the kind of preparation students receive undergraduate and graduate students who want to do research: What kind of tools in the field are getting?, What methodologies are being implemented do people have the advice of teachers extensive field experience?, what kind of support they receive from their universities? Whereas research in Colombia is not a priority I fear that the answers to these questions are daunting.

twitter In an entry on Sunday 16 January, journalist Hollman Morris noted that Harvard University researchers working there are not enough in Colombia for fear of violence. On the contrary, and at least on the issue of peace and conflict, there are several foreign researchers working in Colombia and publishing about Colombia. If not we equip Colombian students with the tools necessary to do serious investigative work, Colombia will become a perfect place for others to do their fieldwork, but will be very little that the country received in return.

university's reaction to the tragedy San Bernardo del Viento will be to limit or prohibit the field work of teachers and students, which is understandable but ultimately it will affect research in Colombia. Many students limit their work in the cities or, depending on area of study, go to other countries. In this way, how can we pretend that the new generations to understand and transform the country if the researchers themselves do not come to know, to explore and write about it? Of course, the safety factor and the state's presence is vital, but also incumbent on universities to prepare students adequately for the challenges they face when they dare to do research in Colombia, as did Margaret and Matthew.

In closing, it is worth quoting a Colombian journalist Gloria Ortega Perez on his blog Sentipensantes . The last paragraph of your last entry may illustrate clearly the importance of an active researcher and committed in a country like Colombia marked by more than 60 years of violence.

"We must do what he did the fisherman who found Matthew and Margarita: go and look with open eyes the tragedy that is repeated over and over and over again, perhaps because we do not see with the heart or from the human soul but from the statistics. Perhaps we ever wake up to not tolerate murder more. " (more)

Chrome Desert Eagle Airsoft Full Metal

Reflections Colombian journalist Gloria Ortega Pérez on the management of resources for victims of winter in Colombia. Very much in tune with the theories of action without damage and conflict transformation

===

"I think nothing is more urgent today than ensuring that resources daminificadas sacred to people, actually fulfill that purpose. In addition to [that] I have many doubts about the management of the large financial resources provided by the Colombians (telethons), national and international organizations and countries along with the government and tons resources in kind, food and emergency supplies, demand for organziación supreme executive management and complex. I went through

Cienaga, Tasajera, Palmira on the dept. Magdalena, MUNICIPALITY who have been severely affected, but not the worst are and tried to think how to make one of the thousands of tons of food markets and could get there. Just imagine what will be in the 129 municipalities of Magdalena riverine which are under water.

is clear that the poor are still poor, abandoned, excluded. The infrastructure works are urgent, there are areas that can be re-inhabited, resources will always be insufficient, but also protect hundreds of thousands of children from disease, hunger and cold.

The State and its various institutions set policies, make plans, implement the guidelines, but officials will never be but the way in places of this tragedy winter boots Pantanal (if served), doubling back and passing the difficulties passing the millions of people who have lost everything, not much, but it was how far they lived.
Nor will those of the United Nations programs that have grown into parastatals, generating advisers, consultants and analysts desktop that eat the budgets of the countries making books, brochures, events and photos for your own vanity. This was Haiti before and after the tragedy that today marks one year. That is and has historically been in Colombia in health, sanitation, social, political education. Pure speech, paper, travel, trench and annual agendas.

NGOs would have to be local, working directly with communities to facilitate their organization and care, to determine priorities for attention and articulate the department's municipal and local. It is from and for gente.Por believe that is required to link these people where there are always leaders, elected officials with whom one could count and that could do it.

Why do young people who have to perform military service to send them to social service in these places? Why not promocio0nar that universities be required to do internships for doctors, nurses, engineers, architects, journalists, human rights defenders and all professional areas of this tragedy? Why not call the thousands of women and men of the reserve of the Armed Forces to go to combat hunger, malnutrition and disease (which it must have been, only that no journalist has come to these places and been more of a note journalism) and will effectively serve to "the motherland"?

'On Friday, the Government, through the National Calamity Fund, announced the shift of the first 145 billion pesos from the governorates that provide humanitarian assistance to the victims. 62 percent will be allocated to departments on the Atlantic Coast. "
would give [us] grief, sorrow, but mostly very angry that in four years or less be reading headlines to instigate an investigation because tons of food were lost, the money ended up in the pockets of the liveliest and thousands of people died of hope and solidarity in the media. "
