The following is a message from the School of Law University of Notre Dame and Center for Civil and Human Rights - CCHR -


For over two decades, more than 300 lawyers from more than 80 countries have graduated from our LL.M. International Law of Human Rights. The commitment of our graduates in the field of human rights, as well as the rigor and richness of his academic career in the CCHR - has established our LL.M. program as one of the largest in the world.

our LL.M. Applicants inspired by his compassion for the victims of human rights violations, but often lack the skills necessary to be a strategic human rights lawyer. In this context, a priority of our program is to provide our students with the skills necessary substantive and procedural aspects of international human rights. As pointed out by our founder Father Hesburger, "compassion without competence is a cruel hoax on those who served."

Applicants to our LL.M. are inspired by their compassion for victims of human rights violations, but often lacking in the technical skills required for strategic human rights lawyering. Therefore, ensuring that our students gain competency in the substantive and procedural aspects of international human rights law remains the first priority of the CCHR. As our founder, Fr. Hesburgh, said on the occasion of the dedication of the Notre Dame law school library, “compassion without competence would be a cruel hoax upon those they serve.”

The application deadline is February 1, 2011, though the CCHR may, at its discretion, review applications received after that date. The application is available here:
